Course Descriptions

Beginners (Section 1) – Mondays 6:30 – 7:30

About The Class
Participants in the Beginner/Section 1 class will learn some of the basics of T’ai Chi (such as posture and weight shifting) and will learn the movements from the first third of the form. (This T’ai Chi form is traditionally broken up into three sections.) The first section contains movements that are fairly easy to perform on a basic level however there are subtleties and nuances to the movements that offer a depth of learning possibilities. During each class, we review what has already been learned and add on a few new movements. This breaks the section down into more easily digestible chunks. Participants will benefit by practicing these movements at home which will make the form much easier to learn and will offer the student a deeper understanding of the movements.

Section 2 – Mondays 6:30 – 7:30

About The Class
For those who have completed the first section and wish to progress, Section 2 offers a set of more dynamic and more challenging movements. While these movements are more difficult, students often find this section easier to learn since the basics of T’ai Chi have become more deeply ingrained. Every class will include practice of the first section as well so that we can continue to get more comfortable with what we have already learned.

Section 3 – Mondays 7:45 – 8:45

About The Class
Section 3 offers some of the most challenging moves of the form. While many of the moves are familiar from earlier sections, some of the moves in this section may take several weeks to learn. While these moves are more difficult, they are also some of the most beautiful and enjoyable moves of the form. Additionally we will continue to practice the first and second section every class.

Advanced – Mondays 7:45 – 8:45

About The Class
Participants who have been through the first three sections can continue on to the Advanced class. During the advanced class we will refine movements that we have learned and explore some of the deeper philosophies of T’ai Chi. Applying these philosophies to the movements offers layers and depths of enjoyment of the form that grow with time and practice. The Advanced class offers an opportunity for ongoing exploration, learning and enjoyment of the treasures that T’ai Chi has to offer.
